Ways to Serve

CWU Mission Statement

Church Women United is a racially, culturally, theologically inclusive Christian women’s movement, celebrating unity in diversity and working for a world of peace and justice. Founded in 1941, Church Women United is:
    •    a movement representing Protestant, Roman Catholic, Orthodox and other Christian women;
    •    biblically based, shared Christian faith;
    •    organized into more than 1,200 local and state units working for peace and justice in the United States and Puerto Rico;
    •    supported by constituents in state and local units and denominational women’s organizations;
    •    impassioned by the Holy Spirit to act on behalf of women and children throughout the world; and
    •    recognized as a non-governmental organization by the United Nations.


Four Celebrations A Year


World Day of Prayer              First Friday in March---Unites women in 170 countries in

                                                                                      prayer and Christian unity.


May Friendship Day               First Friday in May----Focuses on local concerns.


Human Rights Day                First Friday in October--Focuses on the dignity of all people.


World Community Day           First Friday in November--Focuses on justice and peace in

                                                                                           our global community.


Three Learning Opportunities


On the first Fridays of February, April, and September we conduct informational forums in which we learn about local and national issues of concern to our membership; share ideas and concerns, study, seek solutions, and plan action.

 


One Interactive Bible Study


On a Friday in June we hold a spiritual growth event called a Wellspring.


Service Opportunities


  • Conduct Celebration Services for women at the county jail
  • Promote projects that reflect our concern for the health and wellbeing of women and children
  • Gather "least coins" from member units for world mission projects reflecting the Fellowship of the Least Coin Movement's purposes of prayer for peace and reconciliation.
  • Make comforters for Austin's needy in the Mayberry Sewing Rooms
  • Contribute funds for disaster relief and economic development through Church World Service for use in the United States and around the world

A $10.00 donation for an individual membership puts your name on the mailing list and entitles you to a copy of the annual CWU Yearbook published by the Austin Chapter.  Notices are mailed or e-mailed monthly announcing the meetings and activities of CWU in Austin.  Mail your membership request to Church Women United, P.O.
